Scan volume in an obstetric practice is predictable and persistent. Every patient in the third trimester needs fetal biometry, Doppler flow assessment, and biophysical profile components. A maternal-fetal medicine program running growth scans, anatomy surveys, cervical length measurements, and Doppler studies in high-risk pregnancies requires a system that performs consistently across all of those protocols day after day. The equipment earns against scheduled visits, and the scheduling fills against a known patient population. That earnings predictability makes fetal monitoring ultrasound one of the more fundable categories in medical equipment financing, and we structure deals around it regularly for OB/GYN practices, maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialists, and hospital labor and delivery programs.

Our minimum transaction is $50,000. Full-featured obstetric ultrasound systems with automated biometry packages, 3D/4D imaging for anatomic survey, color and spectral Doppler for umbilical and uterine artery assessment, and the probe package for OB applications typically price from $60,000 to $200,000. Systems for dedicated MFM programs at the top of the clinical capability range sit above $150,000 with full software suites.

Questions About Fetal Monitoring Ultrasound

Review the common timing, documentation, and equipment questions before sending the quote.

We perform nuchal translucency screening. Does the financing require FMF-accredited software?

The financing does not require specific software accreditation; that is a clinical and billing credentialing issue between your practice, the FMF, and your payers. When choosing the system itself, however, you should confirm that the software version is on the current FMF-approved list for NT measurement if NT screening is part of your program. The accreditation requirement affects which system you buy; the financing follows your equipment choice.

Our OB practice has been running an aging system for seven years. Can we trade in the old one and finance a new one?

Trade-in transactions work similarly to private-party used sales. The value of the old system can be applied toward the down payment or purchase price on the new system, and the net amount is what gets financed. Whether the trade-in is handled by the manufacturer, a dealer, or a separate resale transaction, the practical effect is the same: the net financed amount is lower when the old system's value is captured.

We are a single-physician OB/GYN practice. Does the practice size affect our qualification?

Practice size by itself is not a disqualifying factor. A solo-physician practice with a solid revenue history and good personal credit profile of the physician-owner qualifies for ultrasound financing on the same terms as a multi-physician group. A personal guarantee from the practice owner is standard in smaller practices. What matters is revenue consistency and creditworthiness, not headcount.

Can we finance a Voluson system specifically? That is what our team is trained on.

Yes. GE Voluson systems, including the Voluson E10, E8, S10, and SWIFT, are among the most actively financed OB ultrasound platforms in our program. Specific model preferences from a trained team are a normal part of the equipment selection process and do not change the financing structure. We finance GE Voluson systems new and certified pre-owned.

How does deferred-payment financing work for a new OB practice that needs several months to build volume?

Deferred payment structures allow a practice to begin using the equipment while delaying the start of principal payments for a defined period, typically 60 to 120 days or up to six months depending on the program. Interest may accrue during the deferral period. This gives a new OB practice runway to build its patient schedule and establish scan volume before the full payment obligation begins. Not all transactions qualify for deferred start; creditworthiness and transaction size affect eligibility.
